Dover

Known as White Cliffs of Dover are the surrounding chalk cliffs. While the population of the urban area of Dover, as calculated by the Office for National Statistics, was 39,078 inhabitants, the town of Dover had 28,156 inhabitants at the 2001 census.

Buckland and Charlton since 1836 have become part of Dover, the Dover St. James and Dover St. Mary's parishes, and (a hamlet to the west) Maxton, Kearsney, River, Whitfield, and Temple Ewell, all to the north of the town centre, are within its conurbation. The Saxon Shore Way and the North Downs Way are long distance footpaths that Dover has.

From Dover Priory railway station, Port of Dover is a 20-minute walk. At crosswall quay, Dover Lifeboat station is in Dover Harbour. In Whitfield, Dover Christ Church Academy is 4 miles north of Dover.

Founded in 1871, Dover College is a mixed public school by a group of business men. Part of the East Kent College (EKC) is Dover Technical College. On Coombe Valley Road, near its premises that are previous (in a former workhouse that was Victorian), Dover has hospital, Buckland Hospital built in 2015.

The Silver Screen at the Dover Museum and the Cineworld opened in 2018 as part of the St James' Retail and Leisure complex, are cinemas that the town has. Off the High Street, Charlton Shopping Centre has retail units, the Dover Local leisure facilities, community hub, and the studios of Dover Community Radio. To form the Catholic Schools' Dover Federation, the Catholic School of St Edmund's federated with the Primary School of St Richards Catholic.

Opened in March 2019 in Whitfield replacing the Townwall Street facility, which by YL was operated, a not for profit charitable trust, which caters for sports and includes a swimming pool, Dover District Centre is operated by Places Leisure. The oldest coastal rowing club in Britain, Dover Rowing Club has a rich history, becoming the best club on the south coast. Amongst Dover Athletic, there are sports clubs.
